Today, we remember 9/11 and the precious lives we have lost. We remember that after the first tower fell, the music in the plaza continued to play. We remember that even in our most solemn hour, the arts lived on, and the lives of those lost remain bright in our memories. The arts live and we never forget.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that officially marks the end of slavery. It's a day of celebration— a time to uplift Black voices and artists and a day of acknowledgment. Today we acknowledge our country's past and recognize the important contributions Black artists have made to the world. In honor of this, we are highlighting some of the many Black artists with roots in Rochester and throughout our region. Today and every day, we honor Black lives and Black artists.
