Swiftly Fly the Years

I remember my mother going out to buy the paper every day for my Grandmother. She would walk all the way up Sellinger street to Orgel’s on Joseph Avenue pushing me in the carriage. Above, you can see a photograph of my cousins with me in the carriage on our street in front of our four-family house.
So many fond memories of that time in the late 1950s on Joseph Avenue—the fish market, the wonderful bakeries, my Uncle Louis' barbershop, Wittenberg's butcher shop. Even Hymie Sniderman's gas station on our corner. I attended Hebrew school at B'nai Israel with Rabbi Hyman and had my bar mitzvah at AAA Kipel Volin in the building where my grandparents were married more than 100 years ago.
